Bisacodyl: Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Overview
- Mild stimulant laxative that increases intestinal motility, but inhibits absorption of water. It is locally active with <5% systemic absorption.
Uses of Bisacodyl
- Constipation.
- Onset of action 6โ10 hours (oral use), or 15โ60 minutes (rectal use).
Dose of Bisacodyl in Dogs and Cats
Dogs:
Constipation: 5โ15 mg/dog prn.
Cats:
Constipation: 2โ5 mg/cat prn.
