It also highlights the specific etiology and epidemiology of these viral infections and discusses their various biological and mechanical transmission mechanisms. Further, the book reviews various measures for controlling viral zoonoses and examines novel therapeutic and prophylactic strategies.
Discussing recent studies on the pathogenesis and host immune response to these infections, it underscores the importance of using vaccines against these viral diseases to reduce the risk of them being transmitted to humans.Lastly, it describes in detail the challenges posed by these viral infections and our readiness to face them.

  • Reviews various viral zoonoses of animal origin
  • Highlights the current monitoring system for viral zoonotic diseases
  • Examines the role of veterinary vaccines in preventing these diseases from being transmitted to humans

Comparative Osteology A Laboratory and Field Guide of Common North American Animals

Comparative Osteology A Laboratory and Field Guide of Common North American Animals pdf

Comparative Osteology A Laboratory and Field Guide of Common North American Animals

Comparative Osteology A Laboratory And Field Guide Of Common North American Animals Pdf

By Bradley Adams and Pam Crabtree

In the forensic context it is quite common for nonhuman bones to be confused with human remains and end up in the medical examiner or coroner system. It is also quite common for skeletal remains (both human and nonhuman) to be discovered in archaeological contexts. While the difference between human and nonhuman bones is often very striking, it can also be quite subtle. Fragmentation only compounds the problem. The ability to differentiate between human and nonhuman bones is dependent on the training of the analyst and the available reference and/or comparative material.

Comparative Osteology is a photographic atlas of common North American animal bones designed for use as a laboratory and field guide by the forensic scientist or archaeologist. The intent of the guide is not to be inclusive of all animals, but rather to present some of the most common species which also have the highest likelihood of being potentially confused with human remains.

  • An affordably priced, compact laboratory/field manual, comparing human and nonhuman bones
  • Contains almost 600 high-quality black and white images and diagrams, including inch and centimeter scales with each photograph
  • Written by the foremost forensic scientists with decades of experience in the laboratory and as expert witnesses

Beyond Horse Massage: A Breakthrough Interactive Method For Alleviating Soreness, Strain, And Tension Pdf

By Jim Masterson and Stefanie Reinhold

Beyond Horse Massage: A Breakthrough Interactive Method for Alleviating Soreness, Strain, and Tension PDF. In this book, Jim Masterson, Equine Massage Therapist for the 2006 and 2008 and 2010 USET Endurance Teams, and for equine clientele competing in FEI World Cup, Pan American and World Games competitions, teaches a unique method of equine bodywork, in which the practitioner recognizes and follows the responses of the horse to touch to release tension in key junctions of the body that most affect performance.

This practical book:

  • Contains step-by-step instructions, photographs and illustrations
  • Is ideally suited to accompany you to the barn, where you will practice the Masterson Method techniques on horses.
  • Includes chapters with tips & techniques, anatomical explanations and examples from Jim’s practice help deepen your understanding.
  • Has a “quick reference” section that will point you to exercises that are specifically suited to your particular discipline—dressage, endurance, eventing, show jumping, barrel racing, or others in the vast realm of horse sports.

By using these techniques, and knowing the responses to look for, you are able to:

  • Achieve a release of accumulated stress in deep-seated key junctions of the horse’s body that affects mobility, comfort, attitude, training and performance.
  • Restore muscular and structural balance, and natural alignment.
  • Enable your horse to perform optimally and respond to your training without stiffness and pain.
  • Achieve new levels of communication and trust with your horse that spill over into other areas of interaction.

Applied Muscle Biology and Meat Science

Applied Muscle Biology and Meat Science

Applied Muscle Biology And Meat Science Pdf Download

By Min Du, Ph.D., Richard J. McCormick

Applied Muscle Biology and Meat Science PDF. Many of the difficulties that meat and animal scientists face when attempting to address specific problems—such as stress susceptibility and poor meat quality in swine—stem from a lack of understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms that drive muscle growth, metabolism, and its conversion to meat. This book provides current knowledge about skeletal muscle and meat, and serves as a platform for further investigation of specific technical issues.

Applied Muscle Biology and Meat Science outlines the tremendous strides made in the field of muscle biology in recent years, particularly pertaining to the understanding of the mechanisms that control skeletal muscle growth and development. With a distinguished international team of contributors, this text discusses the impact these factors have on meat production and quality with worldwide applicability.

This state-of-the-science reference covers a wide range of topics in muscle biology and meat science, including genetic selection, muscle structure and development, muscle protein turnover and meat tenderization, meat quality, collagen, color, lipid, and meat safety. With approximately 85 illustrations and tables, the text focuses on biological changes and the appropriate management techniques for meat animals.

Given recent developments in energy costs and distribution and changes in the commodities markets driven by the demand for biofuels, the challenges for animal production agriculture will only increase. This valuable text furthers understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms that are related to animal and meat production–an understanding that will play an integral role in solving today’s industry challenges.
