Dog appeasing pheromone: Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Dog appeasing pheromone

Overview

  • The mixture is comprised of derivatives of the dermal secretions generated by the mother after giving birth, which aid in retaining the pups within the den.
  • The signal induces an affective bias in the perception of the surrounding environment and does not necessitate learning.
  • An analogous signal appears to be a component of the adult dog social signal that regulates the maintenance of stable social groups.
  • It is believed that associated limbic activity helps mitigate the impact of certain perceived environmental hazards, but does not induce sedation or diminish the startle response.

Uses of Dog appeasing pheromone

  • Assists in reducing signs of tension associated with separation, noise sensitivity, travel, introduction to a new home, visits to a novel environment (e.g. veterinary clinic), and other anxiety-provoking situations (kennels).

Dose of Dog appeasing pheromone in Dogs and Cats

Dogs:

  • The diffuser covers 50–70 m2, although air-conditioning reduces this.
  • If the intended area exceeds this, use a second diffuser or a collar if air-conditioned.
  • One vial lasts four weeks.
  • Avoid turning it on and off.
  • Follow formulation instructions.
  • DAP spray can be used with the diffuser for localized applications at home.
  • To evaporate the alcohol carrier, spray 8–10 pumps of DAP on the surface 15 minutes before the effect is needed and before the dog is introduced.
  • Although animals react differently, the impact should last 1–2 hours. After 1–2 hours, reapply.
