Uses of Colestyramine
- Help in alleviating diarrhea in cases of fat malabsorption through bile acid sequestration.
- Reduction of serum cholesterol in idiopathic hypercholesterolemia in dogs.
- Dog digoxin toxicity treatment.
Dose of Colestyramine in Dogs and Cats
Dogs:
• Hyperlipidaemia: 1–2 g/dog p.o. q12h.
• Bile acid sequestration: 1–2 g/dog p.o. q12h.
Cats:
Anecdotally: 0.5 g/cat p.o q24h titrated upwards to effect.
