Adsorbent for intestinal uraemic toxins, including phosphate.
Uses of Chitosan
- Reduce serum urea and phosphate in chronic renal disease in cats.
- Phosphate-binding agents are usually only used if low-phosphate diets are unsuccessful.
- Monitor serum phosphate levels at 4–6 week intervals and adjust dosage accordingly if trying to achieve target serum concentrations.
- Monitor for hypercalcaemia.
- As the formulation contains lactose, use it with care in diabetic and lactose-intolerant animals.

Dogs, Cats:
Chronic kidney disease: 200 mg/kg p.o. q12h (mixed with food)
