Overview
- Enhances renal tubular resorption of calcium, and alkalinizes urine.
Uses of Potassium citrate
- Management of calcium oxalate and urate urolithiasis, and fungal urinary tract infections.
- May be used to treat hypokalaemia, although potassium chloride or gluconate is preferred.
- Used to treat some forms of metabolic acidosis.
Dose of Potassium citrate in Dogs and Cats
Dogs, Cats:
- Urinary alkalinization: 75 mg/kg or 2 mmol/kg p.o. q12h.
