Horse Senses

Horse Senses Pdf

By Susan McBane

Horse Senses PDF Book. Horses perceive the world differently from humans because their senses developed differently through evolution to cope with different ways of living and surviving. Horses are essentially prey/flight animals. The horse’s senses therefore determine how the world appears to him and how he reacts to it. As the horse’s perception and understanding are very different to ours sometimes their reaction to events and their surroundings seem strange to us.

In this book the author compares the horses sensory organs with those of humans to avoid misunderstandings as lack of knowledge can lead to many problems when dealing with horses. The five senses are covered in this book: hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Each section explains how the horses’ sense works and then this is related to care, behavior and riding, explaining why some practices are appropriate and why some are not. The behavioral aspect of dealing with horses is emphasized throughout.

The author is founder of the Equine Behaviour Forum and author of over 40 books on equine topics. She has an HNC in Equine Sciences and Management, is a Classical Riding Club Gold Award Holder and classical trainer, an equine shiatsu practitioner, and an Associate Member of the International Society for Equitation Science. This book is useful for all horse owners, horse breeders and trainers who wish to gain a better understanding of how the horse’s senses function, and for veterinary students and practitioners.

A few new chapters have been added. Most of the examples given have been taken from Indian experience in general and my own experience in particular. It would be highly fitting, to express my sincere gratitude to the predecessors who have authored books on extension education in community development, which gave an insight into various concepts in the field of extension.

Surviving with Companion Animals in Japan

Surviving with Companion Animals in Japan

Surviving With Companion Animals In Japan Pdf Book

By Hazuki Kajiwara

Surviving with Companion Animals in Japan PDF book examines how relationships between guardians and companion animals were challenged during a large-scale disaster: the tsunami of March 2011 and the following nuclear disaster in Fukushima. The author interrogates: 1) How did guardians and their companion animals survive the large disaster?; 2) Why was the relationship between guardians and their companion animals ignored during and after a disaster?; and 3) What structures and/or mechanisms shaped the outcomes for animals and their guardians? Through a critical realist framework, combined with a theoretical perspective developed by Roy Bhaskar and his colleagues, the author argues that despite the trivialization of companion animals by government officials, relationships between animals and guardians were often able to be maintained, in some cases through great pains by the guardians. While the notion of human-animal relationships in Japan has thus far been dominated by economic logic, the author reveals dynamics between guardians and companion animal transcend such structures, forging the concept of “bonding rights.”

Patient Assessment, Intervention And Documentation For The Veterinary Technician Pdf

By Cynthia Lattanzio, Jody Rockett, and Katie Anderson

Patient Assessment, Intervention and Documentation for the Veterinary Technician PDF Book addresses the methodology used to apply substantive information to real world problems in the education of veterinary technicians. Nursing students in human medicine have long benefited from instruction in the Nursing Process, which is a method for using critical thinking skills to apply theoretical knowledge to actual cases. This text develops a similar methodology for veterinary technicians, called the “Technician Practice Model”. This guide identifies and describes the various steps in the Technician Practice Model and provides both instruction and examples on documenting the results of that process. Particular emphasis is given to developing SOAP notes and Medication Administration/Order Records (MAOR).

A Guide to Oral Communication in Veterinary Medicine

A Guide to Oral Communication in Veterinary Medicine pdf

A Guide to Oral Communication in Veterinary Medicine

A Guide To Oral Communication In Veterinary Medicine Pdf

By Ryane E. Englar

A Guide to Oral Communication in Veterinary Medicine Book PDF. Good communication skills provide better clinical outcomes and help avoid minor as well as major mistakes. Approximately 60-80% of negligence claims against vets are related to poor communication, with new graduates especially vulnerable. Communication skills are a growing part of the curriculum in veterinary schools, recognising how fundamental clear communication is to good practice. A Guide to Oral Communication in Veterinary Medicine covers why communication skills are important, the structure of typical communications and suggested approaches, veterinary specific communication pathways, and sample scripts between vet and client. Scenarios covered include everyday communication, dealing with challenging situations, different species, different settings, and communication within the veterinary team. The aim is to instill confidence and competence, build professionalism, and avoid problems. Most current teaching is based on a toolbox approach developed from the human medicine model. However, there is no set standard for teaching methodology, which is why this is primarily a book for students, but also includes a section for educators to provide guidance in this nascent subject.

Food and Animal Welfare

Food And Animal Welfare Book Pdf

By Henry Buller and Emma Roe

Food and Animal Welfare Book PDF. Drawing together the latest research and a range of case studies, Henry Buller and Emma Roe guide readers on a fascinating journey through animal welfare issues ‘from farm to fork’. Animal welfare offers a vital lens through which to explore the economies, culture and politics of food. This is the first text to provide a much-needed overview of this strongly debated area of the food industry.

Buller and Roe explore how animal welfare is defined, advocated, assessed and implemented by farmers, veterinarians, distributors, and consumers. From the practicalities and limitations of establishing a basic standard of care for livestock, to the ethics of selling welfare as a product in the supermarket, this indispensable book offers empirical insights into a key aspect of the global food system: the lives, deaths, and consumption of animals which are at the core of the food chain. It is a must-read for students and scholars of animal welfare, agro-food studies and human-animal relations in disciplines such as geography, politics, anthropology, and sociology as well as animal behaviour, psychology and veterinary science.

The Psychology Of Horsemanship: Understanding The Horse And You Pdf

By Claire Lilley

The Psychology of Horsemanship: Understanding the Horse and You PDF. Horses are fascinating and perceptive creatures. Developing a thorough understanding of how a horse interprets the world around them and deliberately being self-aware as a rider, are the essential skills to a successful and fulfilling partnership. In The Psychology of Horsemanship, well-known equestrian author and horse expert, Claire Lilley, shares her passion and knowledge about horses and riders developed from over forty years’ experience in the equestrian world, and more recently several years in the mental health profession. Divided into three sections, the book covers: Equine psychology – the horses’s senses, primary responses and emotion; Training psychology – the rider’s communication, training and learning from past experiences; Relational psychology – the goals, the development and the challenges faced in successful horsemanship. With high-quality photographs, diagrams and extended real-life examples, this book explores the application of psychology to the world of horses and how the understanding and evolvement of the horse-rider relationship impacts on both mental and physical development.
