Hypromellose: Uses, Dosage and Side Effects
Overview
- Cellulose-based, aqueous tear substitute to replace an aqueous component of trilaminar tear film (lacrimomimetic).
Uses of Hypromellose
- Lubrication of dry eyes.
- In cases of keratoconjunctivitis (KCS or dry eye) it will improve ocular surface lubrication, tear retention and patient comfort while lacrostimulation therapy (e.g. topical ciclosporin) is initiated.
- It may also be used as a vehicle base for compounding ophthalmic drugs.
Dose of Hypromellose in Dogs and Cats

1 drop per eye q1h.
