Overview
- Beta-lactamase-resistant penicillin works in a time-dependent fashion.
- Binds to penicillin-binding proteins involved in cell wall synthesis, thereby decreasing bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity, and affecting cell division, growth and septum formation.
Uses of Cloxacillin
- Narrow-spectrum antimicrobial.
- Less active than penicillin G or V against Streptococcus.
- Indicated for ocular infections with beta-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus.
Dose of Cloxacillin in Dogs and Cats
Dogs, Cats:
Apply 1/10 of a tube (0.3 g) q24h.
