Dose of Methylthioninium chloride
(Methylene blue) in Dogs and Cats
Dogs:
- Methaemoglobinaemia: 1–1.5 mg/kg i.v. slowly once; it can be repeated if necessary.
Cats:
- Methaemoglobinaemia: Use with extreme caution (many consider contraindicated in this species): 1–1.5 mg/kg i.v. slowly once only.

Side Effects of Methylthioninium chloride

- It may cause a Heinz body haemolytic anaemia and renal failure, especially in cats (relatively contraindicated in this species).

- Do not use it unless adequate renal function is demonstrated.
