Carbohydrate Chemistry And Biochemistry: Structure And Mechanism

By Michael Sinnott

Carbohydrate Chemistry and Biochemistry: Structure and Mechanism PDF provides researchers new to the subject with information on the structure and mechanisms in the chemistry, biochemistry or processing of carbohydrates. The book contains everything the reader needs to know about a non-synthetic carbohydrate research project. It gives excellent coverage of carbohydrate chemistry and biochemistry, particularly including the principles of reactivity in the process industries, such as pulp, paper and food. It also employs use of the same concepts to describe enzymic and non-enzymic reactivity.

Biological Interactions Of Sulfur Compounds

By Stephen C. Mitchell

Biological Interactions of Sulfur Compounds PDF focuses on the biological interactions of sulphur compounds which arise specifically from the presence of the sulphur atom within the molecule. The book opens with introductory chapters on the chemistry and biology of sulphur, before tackling the field by introducing compounds which share a common chemical combination. In general, following a description of the uses and impact upon the biological field, specific chemical group characteristics are discussed together with the biological activity and structure-activity relationships where known. The toxicity of such compounds, their consequences in biochemical and clinical terms, and their mechanisms of biological interaction are then addressed.

Bioenergetics Energy Conservation And Conversion

By Günter Schäfer and Harvey S. Penefsky

Bioenergetics Energy Conservation and Conversion PDF addresses fundamental questions of biological energy transformation and conservation, with a focus on those processes which can now be understood on a structural basis.

Current knowledge of selected examples of the biological energy conservation machinery such as cellular oxygen respiration, light-driven energy converters, and fermentation is reviewed. The machinery is highly variable, particularly that within microorganisms, but all of these devices universally rely on one unique underlying physico-chemical principle.

The book is a rich source for specialists interested in recent developments in bioenergetics research and novices in the field alike.

Biochemistry of Vitamin B6 and PQQ

Biochemistry Of Vitamin B6 And Pqq

By G. Marino, G. Sannia and F. Bossa

The Intemational Meeting on Vitamin B6 and Carbonyl Catalysis took place on Capri, Italy from 22nd to 27th May 1994 and was organized in conjunction with the 3rd Symposium on PQQ and Quinoproteins. It was an extraordinary occasion for scientists from all over the world to meet and discuss new developments in these overlapping fields. Several sessions were dedicated to the molecular aspects of Vitamin B6 and Quinone dependent enzymes, as well as to the cellular, biomedical and nutritional aspects. The congress was inaugurated by Paolo Fasella in his capacity as General Director of Science, Research and Development of the Commission of the European Communities, with an overview on Intemational Scientific Collaboration. The scientific sessions started with a talk on the History of Vitamin B6 given by David Metzler who at the very last minute presented Esmond Snell’s paper adding some personal remarks. Unfortunately, both Esmond Snell and Alton Meister had to unexpectedly cancel the trip to Capri. These proceedings contain the papers presented as oral contributions and a few selected poster presentations. The limited number of pages meant we could not publish many interesting poster presentations, including those selected for the three lively and exciting evening poster discussion sessions called by the organizers “Vino, taralli and … discussion”.
