Wildlife Search and Rescue: A Guide for First Responders

Wildlife Search and Rescue, A Guide for First Responders By Rebecca Dmytryk

Wildlife Search and Rescue, A Guide for First Responders

Wildlife Search And Rescue, A Guide For First Responders By Rebecca Dmytryk

By Rebecca Dmytryk

Rescuing wild animals in distress requires a unique set of skills, very different from those used in handling domestic animals. The equipment, degree of handling, the type of caging and level of care a wild animal receives can mean the difference between life and death. Wildlife Search and Rescue is a comprehensive guide on ‘best practices’ and suggested standards for response to sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Wildlife Search and Rescue: A Guide for First Responders PDF covers the fundamentals of wildlife rescue, from ‘phone to field’, including safe and successful capture strategies, handling and restraint techniques and initial aid. Wildlife Search and Rescue is a must have for anyone interested in knowing what to do when they are face to face with a wild animal in need, or for anyone involved in animal rescue. While the book focuses on wildlife native to North America, much of the information and many of the techniques are applicable to other species, including domestic dogs and cats.

Wild Birds and Avian Influenza, An Introduction to Applied Field Research and Disease Sampling Techniques

Wild Birds And Avian Influenza, An Introduction To Applied Field Research And Disease Sampling Techniques By Food And Agriculture Organization Of The United Nations

By Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

The highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 strain has spread from domestic poultry to a large number of species of free-ranging wild birds, including non-migratory birds and migratory birds that can travel thousands of kilometres every year. The regular contact and interaction between poultry and wild birds has increased the urgency of understanding wild bird diseases. This manual contains chapters on the basic ecology of avian influenza and wild birds, capture and marking techniques (ringing, colour marking and satellite telemetry), disease sampling procedures, and field survey and monitoring procedures.

Virus Infections of Ruminants

Virus Infections of Ruminants PDF By Z. DINTER and B. MOREIN

Virus Infections of Ruminants

Virus Infections Of Ruminants Pdf By Z. Dinter And B. Morein

By Z. DINTER and B. MOREIN

Virus Infections of Ruminants Book PDF. As its title suggests, this book is intended to give exhaustive information on virus infections and diseases occurring in ruminants. Each virus and corresponding disease is described in a separate chapter, and the chapters are ordered according to current virus classification. Contributing authors are experts on the virus and disease they describe. Where necessary, the text is accompanied by tables and pictures. The accent is placed on diagnosis of the disease by clinical observations including epizootological data. There is also a description of the laboratory procedures of diagnostic virology, and suggestions concerning control measures (e.g. vaccination and/or eradication policy). This book should prove indispensable to: the practising veterinarian, by facilitating recognition of a viral disease, and giving advice on collecting appropriate specimens for laboratory investigation; the veterinary virologist by aiding the choice of appropriate diagnostic laboratory procedures, and recommending appropriate control measures; and the medical virologist by giving information on viral infections and diseases in ruminants, information that has already proved fundamental in understanding aetiology and pathogenesis of diseases in man caused by papilloma viruses, retroviruses, and prions.

A Toxicologist's Guide To Clinical Pathology In Animals By John E. Whalan

By John E. Whalan

A Toxicologist’s Guide to Clinical Pathology in Animals PDF provides an easy-to-use desk reference for diagnostic information on commonly used hematology, clinical chemistry and urinalysis parameters. Additional reference materials are provided as an aid in evaluating clinical pathology data. For many toxicologists, the evaluation of hematology, clinical chemistry and urinalysis data can be the most challenging aspect of animal toxicity studies. In a typical toxicity study, dozens of parameters are measured several times over the course of the study. There may be hundreds of data points, each of which needs to be considered. A Toxicologist’s Guide to Clinical Pathology in Animals will serve as an essential primer for toxicologists in training and in industry as well as for researchers and professionals in a veterinary practice or a laboratory.

  • Provides the basic information toxicologists need to know to correctly evaluate clinical pathology data, the interpretation of animal data is simplified to minimize misinterpretations
  • Potential diagnoses for the most commonly used blood and urine tests are readily accessible and can be formulated quickly
  • A user-friendly resource that saves time and effort searching for diagnostic information in textbooks
