Apicomplexa in Livestock

Apicomplexa In Livestock Pdf

By Johann Schröder

The Apicomplexa is a globally prevalent group of parasitic protozoa that cause disease, from malaria in humans to livestock diseases such as coccidiosis, babesiosis (Red Water, Tick Fever) and East Coast Fever. With significant economic impacts, a number of Apicomplexa are also zoonotic, leading to grave potential public health consequences.

Infection prevention efforts by immunisation or management of arthropod vector infestation have not been universally successful, and can have knock-on effects such as pollution of the environment and human food chain, and development of insecticidal or acaricidal resistance. This book highlights the similarities and differences between the various Apicomplexa infections, identifying those of greatest significance and suggesting sustainable approaches to better manage their impact on livestock productivity. The book:

  • Reviews Australian livestock as a case study, but highlights global applications, biosecurity concerns and lessons learned;
  • Covers Apicomplexa-caused disease across cattle, pigs, poultry and sheep;
  • Considers human health and environmental impacts, and how sustainable management methods can better outcomes for all.

Suitable for researchers and students of veterinary parasitology and related disciplines, this book is a valuable resource covering this important set of parasites.

Cardiac Arrhythmias in Cats and Dogs: 250 Commented Clinical Cases

Cardiac arrhythmias in cats and dogs: 250 commented clinical cases PDF

Cardiac Arrhythmias In Cats And Dogs: 250 Commented Clinical Cases Pdf

By Luiz Henrique Filippi and Maurício Gianfrancesco Filipp

From the same author of “Electrocardiogram in veterinary medicine”, this book presents cardiac arrhythmias in the format of illustrated and commented clinical cases so that clinicians, anesthetists, interventionists or cardiologists may be assisted to diagnose them, and even train their ability to analyze the tracings that may appear in daily practice; and all the more so, because arrhythmias may arise in associations or often, be accompanied by other findings that suggest heart diseases (such as chamber enlargement) or extra-cardiac diseases (such as pneumonias, for instance).
Both synthetic and didactic, Cardiac Arrhythmias in Cats and Dogs: 250 Commented Clinical Cases includes 250 selected cases, accompanied by a brief history of the patients, and even with data from clinical examinations and ancillary tests, when available. In the page following each presented case, the findings belonging to every tracing are commented. This Q&A format has the goal of leading the reader to think, practice and rationalize simultaneously about EKG, a test that provides so much information.
With a friendly outline and easy to consult, this volume is supported by the use of visual indications in the figures (arrows, asterisks, lines, and so on), with the aim of drawing the reader’s attention to the most significant points in each tracing, thus highlighting the electrocardiographic findings.

Pig Health 1st Edition

Pig Health 1St Edition Pdf

By John Carr, Shih-Ping Chen, Joseph F. Connor, Roy Kirkwood and Joaquim Segalés

Pig Health 1st Edition PDF focuses on the health of pigs, first with coverage of the disorders of pigs organised by clinical sign and body system. The book explores environmental medicine and then health maintenance. Treatment options are discussed, emphasizing a reduction in antimicrobial use and an increased awareness of a holistic approach to treatment. The book includes over 1,500 high-quality illustrations to enhance the clinical description, as well as a wealth of high-quality videos to test the reader in making differential diagnoses with treatment options. Quizzes at the end of each section also encourage reflective learning.

Clinical examination of the individual pig and groups are covered along with environmental medicine, making this the ideal reference for veterinary practitioners and students. Those interested in population medicine (poultry, aquaculture, cattle and small ruminant and apiaries) will particularly enjoy the holistic approach to veterinary medicine. All those who appreciate the many talents of pigs will enjoy the practical approach to managing the health of their animals.

This book moves veterinary science forward, promoting health rather than treating disease. It will be your number one reference for keeping your pigs healthy.

Controlled Reproduction in Sheep and Goats

Controlled Reproduction in Sheep and Goats pdf

Controlled Reproduction in Sheep and Goats

Controlled Reproduction In Sheep And Goats Pdf

By Ian Gordon

Controlled Reproduction in Sheep and Goats PDF is the second in a set of four providing a series on controlled reproduction in farm animals. The aim of the series is to provide a general review of the literature dealing with the different ways in which reproduction in the major farm mammals can be controlled and manipulated. The four volumes are effectively an expanded and new edition of a previous work, Controlled Breeding in Farm Animals (Pergamon Press, 1983). However, the literature on this subject has expanded so rapidly since the time of the earlier volume, that it is now thought appropriate to publish it in four separate volumes. Buffaloes, goats, deer and camelids have been added to the species covered by the series compared to the previous book. All volumes provide comprehensive reference lists and are fully up-to-date. This second volume focuses on sheep and goats. It will appeal to reproductive physiologists and workers in animal production, animal breeding and veterinary medicine.
