Overview
- Betaxolol is a beta-1 selective beta-blocker that decreases aqueous humour production via beta-adrenoreceptor blockade in the ciliary body.
Uses of Betaxolol
- Management of glaucoma.
- It can be used alone or in combination with other topical glaucoma drugs, such as a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
- Betaxolol can be used in the prophylactic management of glaucoma in the other eye of dogs with unilateral primary closed-angle glaucoma.

- Miosis, conjunctival hyperemia and local irritation.
Contraindications of Betaxolol in Dogs and Cats
- Avoid in uncontrolled heart failure and asthma.

- Additive adverse effects may develop if given concurrently with oral beta-blockers.
- Prolonged atrioventricular conduction times may result if used with calcium antagonists or digoxin.
