Aciclovir: Uses, Dosage and Side Effects
Overview
Aciclovir inhibits viral replication (viral DNA polymerase); depends on viral thymidine kinase for phosphorylation.
Uses of AciclovirÂ
- Treatment of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) infections of the eyes.
- Although aciclovir’s therapeutic effectiveness is debatable, frequent use (0.5% ointment 5 times a day) may be able to reach corneal concentrations. Since aciclovir is virostatic, it cannot clear a latent viral infection.
