Overview
- The action of Cisatracurium depends on competitive binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor on the post-junctional membrane so, Inhibits actions of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction.
Uses of Cisatracurium
• Provision of neuromuscular blockade during anesthesia.
• To improve surgical access through muscle relaxation, to facilitate positive pressure ventilation, or for intraocular surgery.
Dose of Cisatracurium in Dogs and Cats
Dogs:
0.05–0.1 mg/kg i.v. followed by additional doses of 0.03 mg/ kg as required (based on neuromuscular blockade monitoring ).

You Should Give:
Side Effects of Cisatracurium in Dogs and Cats
- Can precipitate the release of histamine after rapid i.v. administration, resulting in bronchospasm and hypotension.
- Diluting the drug in normal saline and giving the drug slowly i.v. minimizes these effects.
Contraindications of Cisatracurium in Dogs and Cats
Do not administer unless the animal is adequately anesthetized and facilities to provide positive pressure ventilation are available.
Some Notes:
- Neuromuscular blockade is more prolonged when given in combination with volatile anesthetics, aminoglycosides, clindamycin, and lincomycin.
