Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply the patient weight in kg by the dose in mg/kg to get total mg per dose. Divide that by the concentration (mg/mL or mg/tablet) to get volume in mL or number of tablets. This calculator automates all those steps.
mg/kg means milligrams of drug per kilogram of body weight. This weight-based method ensures each patient receives a dose scaled to their size โ€” essential in veterinary medicine where patients range from a 0.5 kg hamster to a 700 kg horse.
Divide the ฮผg/kg value by 1000. For example, 100 ฮผg/kg = 0.1 mg/kg. This calculator handles the conversion automatically when you select ฮผg/kg as your unit.
Divide the required dose in mg by the drug concentration in mg/mL. Example: a 10 kg dog at 5 mg/kg using a 25 mg/mL solution needs 50 mg รท 25 mg/mL = 2 mL. Select Liquid or Injection and enter concentration in mg/mL.
These are frequency abbreviations: q24h = once daily, q12h = twice daily, q8h = three times daily, q6h = four times daily. Use the Custom option to enter any other interval in hours between doses.
Tablets are rounded to the nearest ยผ tablet increment. This calculator rounds to the nearest ยผ and also shows the exact calculated value so you can decide what is clinically appropriate for each patient.
