Bowel cleansing solutions<\/strong> contain polyethylene glycol as an osmotic laxative<\/strong> and balanced electrolytes to maintain isotonicity and prevent net fluid loss or gain.<\/li>\n
When administered orally<\/strong> they rapidly empty the bowel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Uses of Bowel cleansing solutions <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Bowel preparation<\/strong> before colonoscopy or radiographic examination.<\/li>\n
( N.B: some authorities do not use it in cats before colonoscopy.)<\/strong><\/li>\n
May also be used for constipation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Dose of Bowel cleansing solutions in Dogs and Cats<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Dogs:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Prior to lower GI examination: 22\u201333 ml\/kg p.o. or by stomach tube<\/strong>, 2 or 3 times, at least 4 hours apart.<\/p>\n
Cats:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Prior to lower GI examination: 22\u201333 ml\/kg p.o. or by nasooesophageal tube<\/strong>.
